PRESS RELEASE

Byggelit adapts for the future

Since 1962, Byggelit in Jämtland has refined raw wood material from Norrland for the entire Swedish construction industry. With renewed strength through developed technology and a clear vision, Byggelit is set to become a sustainable supplier of products and services and meet the future needs of the wood construction industry.

- An investment in a wider product range is necessary, given the slowdown in the construction sector that we are experiencing right now, which affects the wood industry in the short term. At Byggelit, we need to adapt our production and staffing based on demand, but we retain a strong belief in the future, and we believe that we will see increased construction in wood in the long-term. What we do now is important for the future, and Byggelit continues to be at the forefront, says Peter Lundblad, CEO of Byggelit.

Since Peter Lundblad took over as CEO in 2021, the aim has been to develop the business and reach new target markets. The investment in CNC technology and more engineers has resulted in customised particle board solutions as a new service offering. The new business strategy was rolled out in 2022 with several house manufacturers forming the first new target market. Currently, Byggelit wants to expand its offering at the conceptual level and become a supplier that contributes to innovative solutions for architects, as well as the overall economy of construction companies focusing on profitability and sustainability.

"We are preparing for the future and have identified a potential for us to contribute with greater value than we do today. This means a new business plan, a revised sales organisation, a developed brand and new target markets," describes Peter Lundblad.

The objective of the development is to reach a strong growth in turnover by the end of 2025 at the latest.

In the past year, Byggelit has undergone a rebranding process and developed new visual brand guidelines. These have been implemented internally and are now being launched externally to the expanded target markets. In May, Byggelit launched their new website as the first step in the extensive activity plan that, together with other marketing activities, will communicate the new offering.

- For 60 years, we have supplied high quality particle boards and have been involved in building large parts of Sweden. Now we need to take a step further and develop the brand to deliver more value to more people. That journey of change would not have been possible without our proud history and a corporate culture that is imbued with a strong drive to deliver quality together with expertise, says Peter Lundblad.

Sustainability and profitability are key

After over 60 years of competence from producing particle boards from certified northern forest raw materials, a new business model focused on sustainability for both people and the environment has emerged. With bespoke particle board solutions, Byggelit can deliver a cleaner and safer working environment, reduced waste and even reuse the minimal waste that still occurs; which is either turned into new particle boards or is sold on as energy. In addition, several development projects are underway to expand the circular mindset, reuse in production and innovative research to replace glue with biodegradable alternatives.

The combined initiatives should be a driving force to reach the goals set within Agenda 2030 by the Swedish Wood industry organisation, with one example being “a higher degree of circular construction where we get information before the construction stage about what the walls of the building will contain, and how they can be reused in the best way”.

- Development of the industry is the only way forward. We want to create opportunities for new knowledge regarding the reacquisition of our material, and we want to provide both architects and construction companies with an enhanced value. We have a fantastic FSC®-certified raw material, and we have the technology and knowledge to refine particle boards, and thus combine function and design. And, above all to refine the idea of what architects and project managers think particle boards can do, says Peter Lundblad.
